Malala Yousafzai, a 16-year-old Pakistani advocate for girl's education, stole the Glamour Women of the Year awards last night. It's an incredible feat considering throughout the night the philanthropic achievements of Melinda Gates, Liya Kebede, Christy Turlington Burns and Barbra Streisand, among other impressive women, were honored individually. But she is the youngest person every nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, so just add this one to her growing accomplishments.
Lady Gaga was one of many humbled by Malala's words, "I don't fear guns. I believe the gun has no power because a gun can only kill. But a pen can give life." During Gaga's own sort of meandering speech, the pop star's two most powerful points were first that she looked "too perfect" on her Glamour cover. "I do not look like that when I wake up in the morning...I don't even look like this," she joked, taking a second to push back to her massive hair. And she called for magazines to put people "with an idea" on the cover, rather than just the beautiful and famous. Gaga said, "If I could forfeit my Glamour cover I would give it to Malala."
Glamour's Women of the Year Fund Fund will go to The Malala Fund, which helps girls around the world get the education (Find out how to donate here).
