Of a Kind made a name for itself by releasing a single item from a designer in small batch editions. Now, the e-tailer's expanding to offer a much fuller range from its designers in a space called "Collections."
Since last August, the start-up has tested ten labels in "Collections" beta, which included Cook & Gates, Collina Strada, Ann Yee, and Wren. From those, four brands—Dusen Dusen, Ace & Jig, jewelry makers K/ller Collection, and leather goods Eayrslee—moved forward to officially offer a full range through the site.
As co-founder Erica Cerulo told Mashable when the team initially launched the new setup, "Designers are often asking us how to set up their own e-commerce, or they're blogging and they don't know why they aren't making sales [from it]. We're handling those parts of it—the storefront, the marketing, the editorial." Of a Kind is also covering customer service and returns, which is no small feat for the small five-person company.
