Ever wonder about who protects Karl Lagerfeld (and, presumably, Choupette) from all the haters? So did Man of the World magazine. Fashionista got its hands on the magazine's upcoming spring/summer issue featuring an interview with the man himself: Sébastien Jondeau, a former boxer and sometimes-model for his boss.
"Mr. Lagerfeld knew I was into various combat sports, and that I boxed," Jondeau explained, adding that he met the designer while working for a security company. "He was interested in what I did, and we were friendly, and so I took a chance one day and told him that if he ever needed a bodyguard, I was available."
Kaiser Karl also capitalized on his good looks, casting Jondeau in an advertising campaign for his eponymous menswear line this summer. His only other modeling experience prior to this was with A.P.C., in a shoot that specifically called for boxers.
Though a bodyguard obviously needs to be strong enough to knock out any attacker, it's not all about the brawn. "We try to avoid physical contact as much as humanly possible when we are protecting someone," he said. "It sells movie tickets, but the reality is completely different. Ninety-nine percent of what we do is about being diplomatic. There is a craft to it." We're into his strong-and-silent vibe.
