Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

3.1 Phillip Lim's biker chick is not Balmain's rough and tough woman. The collection's name, Sono Mama, meaning "as you are" in Japanese (apparently a moto-racer motto), and nods to a rider who's a patch collector, taking her time on the road, maybe making a stop to go antiquing. While she wears plenty of leather, she tones it down with folksy striped trousers, nerdy-chic sweatshirts, and the grunge plaids of Spring that are as artfully thrown together as his last collection. Hop over the jump for this new kind of traveler. And take a good, hard look at the outerwear. It's to die for.
