Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Milly designer Michelle Smith named her Fall 2013 collection "Illumination"—which described both the clothing and the looks on her audience's faces as they watched it come down the runway. We couldn't help but smile as laminated holograms and metallics—particularly shiny pink and silver skirts— joined garments made from more traditional fabrics parading in front of us.

Back in September, the Milly line seemed to go through somewhat of a metamorphosis—the ladylike, professional styles the brand is known for seemed to be replaced by younger, sportier, and more futuristic looks. Smith's new Fall 2013 Collection combined the best of both worlds. Loose sporty designs and illuminated fabrics were joined by some of the label's more fitted signature coats and dresses. And of course we'll never tire of the traditional show closer, an appearance by Smith's young daughter Sophia joining her Mom on the runway.
