Hot off the heels of her River Island collaboration (which itself was hot off the heels of her umpteenth celebrity perfume, Victoria's Secret runway performance, 777 Tour, that UK fashion TV show...you get it. Rihanna's busy), MAC announced that the singer has collabed on four collections of cosmetics. Each are called RiRi [Hearts] MAC, but will debut at separate times beginning later in 2013. The singer and everyone's favorite airplane seat buddy told WWD that the collab was a "no brainer" because "When you think of makeup, the brand that pops into your mind—for something legit—is MAC [...] I have always loved makeup, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand."
John Demsey, group president of MAC's parent company, took to relationship metaphors to explain the involved collaboration. He said, "We always say that MAC likes to go on a date but doesn't really want to go into a relationship. This relationship with Rihanna is a long-term one that involves the development of four distinct color initiatives." Then he switched up the metaphors to explain how the initial RiRi Woo lipstick debut (which riffs off MAC's favorite Ruby Woo), plus the summer, fall, and holiday collections are unique, saying, "These four collections are like four tracks on a Rihanna compilation. Each one has its own vibe, look, special makeup packaging and flavor. This is really the convergence of pop culture, fast fashion, and iconic style and makeup."
