Ebay Sellers Are Banking on a Sold-Out Prabal for Target Launch

New, 7 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Despite disappointing sales for the last two big collaboration launches—Margiela for H&M and the CFDA's multi-designer partnership with Target and Neiman Marcus—eBay opportunists appear to have high hopes for this season's Prabal Gurung for Target launch.

Editors and and other guests were invited to shop the collection a few days early at last night's preview party, and today a handful of items have appeared on eBay at well above designated retail prices. The floral dress pictured above, which will be available for $49.95 when the collection launches on Sunday, has multiple listings with a "buy it now" price of above $250. A pair of black patent leather sandals are listed at $200 (compared to $29.99 retail), and a printed miniaudiere ($34.99 retail) is listed for $179.

These sellers may be overly optomistic, however. As the time of publication, we could not find a single bid on any of the Prabal for Target items listed on eBay.
