Girls: Shosh Really Brings It, Hannah Wears Something Cute

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

When we say Hannah wore something cute, we don't mean this. Hannah spent most of last night's episode of HBO's Girls—the second to last of the second season—wearing that: A giant gray sack of a tee shirt, no pants. Granted, she was in the hospital (for taking it too far with a Q-tip), so there was no need for her to be wearing cocktail. But, yeah, she was walking the streets in just this giant tee shirt.

Otherwise, Charlie and his app and his geeky-hip new tech friends had a party—and everybody came! Shosh wore complicated hair, Marnie made a total fool of herself, and Ray was grumpy. Essentially, no surprises.

This is Hannah doing the her best smart-sassy-and-single for a meeting with her publisher. In a dress cut from Brady Bunch-era curtains.

"Have you been working out? Stop that."

Here Shosh is wearing every spring '13 trend at once—to serve coffee in her apartment. Ray is unabashedly wearing her Snuggie.

These mismatched fruit earrings are the cutest things Hanna owns.

Charlie only hangs with girls wearing dresses with giant, matronly collars.

Can we just talk about Shoshana's hair look?

A close-up of what's actually happening on Hannah's tee shirt. Birkenstocks.

Marnie is wearing her edgiest color-blocked dress to perform a sad, white-girl version of Kanye West's "Stronger" at the party—much to every guest's chagrin. It's a nightmare. You can see the horror on iPod deejay-guy's face. And Chanel bag isn't having one second of it.

Nerd's face is because of Marnie's embarrassing performance. Or, he just noticed geek-chic sexy tech girl's ridiculous headband.

Episode takeaway: As the season lags we sort of wish the show was just Shosh. Just Shosh mumbling and wearing prim dresses and ever-more complicated hair looks. She wins the episode and our hearts. Marnie loses everything.
