For such a creative industry, fashion sure likes to rest on its award-giving laurels. The 2013 CFDA Fashion Awards, scheduled for June 3, has named the usual names as the year's best designers.
For the Womenswear Designer of the Year award, nominations include last year's runners-up Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs. Alexander Wang, who's oft-short-listed for various categories, replaced last year's winners, the Olsen twins, to round out the category. Maybe the CFDA saves money on the name-tags? Hop over the jump for menswear and accessories and some newer(ish) names.
The Menswear Designer of the Year award will go to Michael Bastian of Gant (first nominated in 2011), Michelle Obama championed Thom Browne, or Duckie Brown's Steven Cox and Daniel Silver, who haven't been nominated since 2007. Alexander Wang and the Proenza Schouler boys return once again to the accessories award line-up and are joined by Phillip Lim for 3.1 Phillip Lim.
While WWD reports that CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and Nadja Swarovski will host this year, we were hoping one of the major repeats would be host Seth Meyers, preferably in a Marc Jacobs pajamas see-through pajamas. But no dice. Have we looked into Tina Fey, anyone?
