For its first Studio Series collaboration, JewelMint is working with Giles & Brother mastermind Philip Crangi on a limited-edition collection. It's a nice fit, since Crangi is a man who certainly knows his way around the roughed-up, cool-girl jewelry of the moment.
Crangi has said of his pieces that they have the feel and spirit of pirate treasure, but he's as versed in affordable leather and steel as he is in luxury materials like gold and silver. "It's easy to make jewelry expensive and eccentric and giant and hard to wear and hard to get. I think [Jewelmint does] a really good job of making really interesting stuff that's accessible, which is what we try to do at Giles & Brother," he told Racked at a launch party last night.
He runs Giles & Bro. with his sister Courtney Crangi, girlfriend of one Jenna Lyons. Though the two Crangis have worked together intimately for more than a decade, they get along impossibly well. "The last time we had an argument was probably in 2001," Courtney said.
"Courtney is my muse, she is Giles, so designing this collection [for Jewelmint] was about her wearing the pieces and how they would fit into her life," added Philip.
The JewelMint collection is the second collaboration Crangi has done in the past six months, having participated in the CFDA/Target/Neiman Marcus holiday brouhaha last December. Given Crangi's openness to collabs and the family's connection to Jenna Lyons, who was also in attendance last night, we had to ask: Is there a Crangi x J.Crew collection in our future? "Conversations are always happening. You never know," Philip hinted.
The Giles & Brother x Jewelmint collection launched yesterday on Jewelmint.com and ranges from $30 to $90.
