Welcome to Beauty Wire, where we round up the day's biggest beauty news.

A new study says that the average woman in the UK spends £450 (about $685) a year on her nails. That includes products like polish and nail wraps as well as trips to the salon to get professional mani-pedis. The phenomenon (and the price) is partly because people want to copy looks from celebrity nail art aficionados like Rihanna and Zooey Deschanel and partly because all that time you spend on your iPhone is seriously damaging your manis. Thanks, science! [Daily Mail]

Love beauty subscription services like Birchbox and GlossyBox, but hate when you get a sample you can't use? Welcome to the world of online beauty-sample trading. Likened to "baseball card swapping, but for adult women," these forums and communities help people get the colors they want or ditch the perfumes they don't like. [Fashionista]

Fun fact: Tarte Cosmetics founderMaureen Kelly was inspired to create the waterproof makeup after watching the synchronized swimming episode of Glee. More synchronicity: the line's launch coincides with the new reality show Splash, where B- and C-list celebrities learn to dive. The limited-edition collection includes waterproof eyeliners, two lip glosses, and an "Amazonian clay finishing powder" and drops on April 1. [Refinery29]

Hungarian-born Victoria's Secret model Barbara Palvin may be only 19, but she knows that beauty requires sacrifices. She says that her beauty regimen is chock full of L'Oreal products (she's one of their faces, so we doubt she's paying for the stuff) and drinking milk, even though she's lactose intolerant. Now that is commitment. [BellaSugar]

Textured nails continue to be huge, and Ciate continues to come up with new varieties. Their newest one is "chalkboard nails," a kit with a matte black background polish and pens in different colors to create the "writing on the board" effect. Selfridge's in London is getting the exclusive, but a) they have a website, and b) it ships to the US. [BBB]
