Welcome to the latest edition of Working It, where Racked takes street style to the next level—the office. The litmus test of the true style-savvy is how she (or he) rocks a look on any old day to work. Forget the pedestrian khakis and buttondowns—these fashionable professionals take the office dress code to a whole other dimension. Quick, somebody call HR!
Today we take you to the Manhattan offices of one of Club Monaco. One of our favorite brands, Club Monaco makes a point of designing for a modern lifestyle and their urban-casual clothes have a knack for becoming go-to wardrobe staples. Here's how the team there works it when they're working.
Marissa Birdi: Human Resources Coordinator It's almost always a formula for me: Club Monaco and whatever shoes I love at the moment.
Style advice: Start an inspiration board of your favorite looks—it's ok to borrow ideas!
Marissa is wearing a Club Monaco t-shirt and pants, Alexis Bittar bracelet, and Prada shoes.
Meredith Mulligan, Merchant: My style is very personal to me. One day it could be tailored and sophisticated, the next it could be laid back and edgy. It totally depends on my mood and what I feel best in. As my style has evolved, I find myself gravitating toward more classic pieces that can live from one season to the next, and then I mix in more trend-driven pieces from my favorite brands.
Style Advice: Dress for how you feel. I never leave the house in something that doesn't allow me to feel my best. If that means boyfriend jeans and a vintage tee, great. But it's important to pull it together with the perfect heel and statement jewelry.
Meredith is wearing a Club Monaco Davie leather jacket, Club Monaco Renay crop pants,3.1 Phillip Lim t-shirt, Skull ring from Calypso accessories, Vintage gold necklaces from her mom, and Chanel shoes.
Kate Roling, Associate Women's Manager-Public Relations & Events: My style is a bit tomboy, in the sense that I wear a lot of blazers and pants and work with a lot of neutral colors (black, white, grey, tan, etc). I like to add in a pop of color, be it with a scarf, my shoe, or bright lipstick as well. I really love a great pant suit (circa Bianca Jagger in the 1970s), and think women look great in a balance of skinny pants with more volume on top to even out the look.
Style advice: Less is more. I am a fan of minimalism and really like a clean athletic. I think if you have too much going on (be it colors, patterns, or layers), a person starts to look like a caricature.
Kate is wearing an Acne blazer, Club Monaco T-shirt, J brand pants, and Zara shoes.
Jennifer Olson, Associate Marketing Manager: Most of the time I like to be comfortable? meaning I usually dress like a dude. If I feel like dressing up, you'll probably find me in black, white, and grey. I tend to invest in bags and coats, not much else. Even though I'm tall, I like to rock heels so I can see everyone in the bar.
Style advice: Don't be afraid to experiment, but still be you. Own it. Confidence will score you a piña at The Commodore on a Friday night.
Jennifer is wearing a Club Monaco top, J Brand leather shorts, Commando tights, and Dior heels.
Gabrielle Vando, Assistant Accesories Merchant: My personal style is constantly changing. I prefer to be dressed up over being too casual. If I'm not wearing them, I'm carrying my heels with me: A good heel can transform any outfit.
Style advice: Dress yourself in flattering pieces and don't force a trend that doesn't work for you. Pick something you love and build an outfit around it.
Gabrielle is wearing a Club Monaco Ela suede jacket, Club Monaco tank, Club Monaco Francis skirt, Rachel Roy heels, Helen Ficalora necklaces and earrings, a CC Skye Bracelet, and a mix of vintage and Club Monaco rings.
