Rachel vs. Brad on Bravo: A Turban and Another Tight Race

New, 3 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Bravo is pitting the Rachel Zoe Project (season 5) and It's a Brad, Brad World (season 2) against each other on Wednesday nights. It's Fashion's Night In, people! We at Racked are keeping score and will crown a winner each week before naming the champion of Bravo's fashion block. May the best fashionista win.

Last night on The Rachel Zoe Project, Rachel and Rodger go a polo match and socialize with some Hilfigers. Meanwhile, Rachel begins working on her pre-fall and fall collections—by which we mean she goes on a shopping spree and styles a '60s/mod shoot for InStyle with Jaime King. The episode ends with Rachel and Rodger fighting over whether or not they need an apartment in New York. Rachel wants; and will probably get ?

Meanwhile on It's a Brad, Brad World: Brad heads off on a whirlwind visit to Canada to help his sister choose a wedding gown, and the event is capped by her asking him to be her best man. Upon returning, Brad heads straight to a lookbook shoot for J Brand. At home, Gary announces that a show he created was picked up—in England. He'll have to move to London the day after the couple moves into their new house.

Best Just Wow Moment
TRZP: Skyler has a cashmere onesie.
IABBW: Seeing where childhood Brad bought his Wet 'n Wild nail polish.
Winner: Probably Brad. You know Skyler has like 16 cashmere onesies.

Best 'I'm Kind of a Big Deal' Moment
TRZP: Rachel snaps a phone-photo of one of those completely amazing checkerboard Louis Vuitton gowns looking completely amazing at the shoot: "I'm sending this to Marc [Jacobs] ? I'm texting it to him."
IABBW: While wedding dress shopping in Canada the shop person pulls out a Jenny Packham. Brad has to tell said shop person, "We were just with Jenny Packham in New York."
Winner: If you have to ask ? obviously Rachel.

Best New Catchphrase Possibility
TRZP: "Maje" branches out: "You're the maje-est."
IABBW: "Secret freak out"—a potentially widely applicable expression ?
Winner: Maje is the maje-est.

Best Celebrity Appearance
TRZP: Rachel runs into Selma Blair—who flirts with Skyler—at the polo match. Later she drinks some lovely-looking white wine with Tommy Hilfiger.
IABBW: Nothing to see here ?
Winner: Rachel, but by default

Best Styling Your Family
TRZP: "I want to ruin Rodger's life every time he tortures me about an outfit"—and yet, when isn't she somehow sort of torturing someone over an outfit?
IABBW: Brad's sister was considering black bridesmaids dresses. Brad: " "We're not doing black."
Winner: Brad, because we're not doing black.

Best Outfit
TRZP: While everyone else at the polo match is wearing pastels, Rachel shows up the most amazing round-framed charcoal sunglasses, a slouchy maybe leather turban, a long, flowing black dress, and pounds of gold jewelry.
IABBW: Was that shawl-collared cardigan a signature bizarro-hued Paul Smith Fair Isle? Into it.
Winner: Rachel, for doing black.

Best Quote, Ego Edition
TRZP: "I can't watch someone not getting dressed well."
IABBW: "She's really petite—as well ?"
Winner: Rachel, for making that double negative sing.

Best Ridiculous Fashion Designer Quote
TRZP: Blue corduroy—"is it a little Sears back to school? That could be a good thing;" courtesy of Rachel's design director.
IABBW: "I don't want it to look like 'I'm dropping off the kids at school';" courtesy of J Brand's creative director.
Winner: Very close, but it has to be the blue corduroy.

Best Mid-commercial Moment of Ridiculous
TRZP: Rachel gets a freebie from Reed Krakoff.
IABBW: The newest shoes at Brad's studio are some everything-and-the-kitchen-sick Louboutins—"is this shoe called the freak out?"
Winner: No contest—Brad.

Best Queen Out
TRZP: "I'm going to go throw on my dress and turban."
IABBW: On how to deal with a particular gown's long train: "I can teach her the drag queen train kick!" When the response is a series of blank stares: "Don't worry about it."
Winner: Rachel's turban.

Best WTF Moment
TRZP: Lacquered lace by Versace ?
IABBW: The fact that there is a Goreski campground and a Goreski roofing company up in Canada somewhere. Yes, those Goreskis.
Winner: Those industrious Goreskis.

Best Gratuitous Cuteness
TRZP: Skyler speaking French!
IABBW: Omigod, Brad's intern Aneshia!
Winner: Aneshia.

Best Shopping Moment
TRZP: Rachel flipping out at Resurrection Vintage (you would too if you saw subtly pinstriped sueded leather Gucci).
IABBW: Brad's sister trying on wedding gowns: "Do people normally take their socks off for this?"
Winner: Brad and his sister's socks.

Total:
TRZP: 7 points
IABBW: 6 points—so close, all over again

The (totally unscientific and subjective) Winner of Fashion's Night In Week 4 is Rachel! Rachel maintains her lead—will Brad come back?
