Vivienne Westwood Slams Michelle Obama's Style

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

You're getting there, Michelle.

Eric Wilson of The New York Times' blog On the Runway interviewed Vivienne Westwood, the highly quotable British designer, and, true to character, she delivered some zingers. Behold:
EW: You must love our first lady, who is famous for recycling her clothes.

VW: Don't talk about her. It's dreadful what she wears.

EW: What?

VW: I don't want to talk about it. Really, I can't. She's a very nice looking lady, but it's a nonstarter regarding clothes that suit her.

To the right, see what happens when Michelle throws style caution to the wind in one of Vivienne Westwoods Fall 2013 creations. (Sadly, the nails shown here are hidden beneath the blanket cape.)
