Twelve Knee-High Sandals for Your Spring Gladiator Games

New, 1 comment

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This week, we here at Racked are celebrating all things shoe related. From the world's wackiest heels to the sneakers of our dreams, we'll be exploring the highs and lows of footwear. Welcome to Shoe Week 2013.

Next up in our exploration of spring's trends: the knee-high sandal. Yup, OTK is no longer reserved for boots only—nay, boots are no longer reserved for fall only! This season's runway trend—which quickly filtered down, and is available for less than $90 at Zara—combines a boot with a sandal, multiplies it by a Roman Gladiator, and pops a heel on for fun.

Why did this absurd concoction actually make it from catwalk to retail? We do not know. We're just here to present the facts. Click through the gallery above for twelve interpretations of a sandal that, for some reason, goes to the knee.
