9 Spring Trenches, From Classic to Crazy

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The trench coat is the hero of spring outerwear: long enough to defend against sudden seasonal gusts, but light enough to transition to the sunnier side of the street. And while khaki styles are always classic, a host of modern interpretations keep the style current. Mackage added quilted leather shoulders to a standard silhouette for a bit of edge, while Creatures of Comfort went cropped, double-breasted, and robin's egg blue. We can't rightly put together a trench story without mentioning Burberry, and as they've got versions rendered in metallic for spring, they're hard to ignore anyhow.
