Bravo is pitting the Rachel Zoe Project (season 5) and It's a Brad, Brad World (season 2) against each other on Wednesday nights. It's Fashion's Night In, people! We at Racked are keeping score and will crown a winner each week before naming the champion of Bravo's fashion block. May the best fashionista win.
First, the recaps. Last night on The Rachel Zoe Project, Rachel and Rodger travel to New York to check in on progress at her forthcoming DreamDry salon and say hello to Brian Atwood at his new boutique. Of course, while they're there, they have to check out some New York City apartments—including a 4000-square-foot penthouse with an additional 4000 square feet of outdoor terrace space ? NBD. In LA, there are shoe fittings and shoe prototypes and a meet-and-greet with Nordstrom shoppers and later, left to their own devices, the girls back at the office end up just rolling around on the carpet.
Meanwhile on It's a Brad, Brad World: Brad is styling Beth Behrs —the blond one from 2 Broke Girls—for a charity gala. On the home front, Gary is hard at work packing the house for their big move—which involves sitting around with Penelope the dog while a crew of about a half dozen pack and move everything.
Best Life Lesson
TRZP: "Apartment hunting is like styling."
IABBW: A long-winded explanation involving the style evolution he's creating for 2 Broke Girls Girl and how, at this point, they are keeping people guessing and building a following ?
Winner: Everything is sorta like styling.
Best Semi-Self Aware 'I'm Kind of a Big Deal' Moment
TRZP: Even Rachel kind of admits that Skyler's getting served animal crackers on a silver platter at Brian Atwood is kind of just absolutely ridiculous.
IABBW: Regarding a gown by Temperley: "Do you think they'd be mad if we cut the sleeves off?" Not totally getting that Brad was mostly semi-joking, Thomas offers to find out.
Winner: Brad, because the dress probably would've looked better sans sleeves.
Best New Catchphrase Possibility
TRZP: Upon seeing the lack of progress at DreamDry: "I'm not going to be Negative Nelly."
IABBW: "Gnarls Barkley" is the new crazy. Who is Gnarls Barkley? They're that group with that song that no one at Brad's studio can remember the name of even though the name of the song is literally "Crazy."
Winner: Gnarls Barkley.
Best Celebrity Appearance
TRZP: Brian Atwood?
IABBW: The blond one from 2 Broke Girls ? Oh, and Brad's Cher impression.
Winner: It was a pretty good Cher.
Best Outfit
TRZP: All of Rachel's New York coat looks are pretty spectacular; including her just-in-case leopard print she has in the car; you know, if the construction at DreamDry is too dusty for black ?
IABBW: Brad wore a lot of coral.
Winner: Coral.
Best Quote
TRZP: Rodger is speaking rather seriously about the business and money and how a New York apartment doesn't totally financially make sense. Rachel interupts by saying: "At least we get to wear coats!"
IABBW: To Thomas, over the phone: "Did you just flip your hair?"
Winner: Very, very close—but Brad for being a little psychic.
Best Fashion Tip
TRZP: For a week in New York one should probably pack approximately seven coats—chubbies, hooded options, long ones, cropped ones, a silver story, a black story, something that buttons all the way up for day, cashmere, plus winter accessories ?
IABBW: "Opulence! Major trend!"
Winner: Rachel. She's so wise.
Best Mid-commercial Moment of Ridiculous
TRZP: Rachel and Rodger spend the duration gushing over and attempting to photograph a huge bus ad for The Rachel Zoe Project.
IABBW: Brad goes through his bin of old sell-or-donate clothing—a surprisingly small bin for someone with so much clothing. Holding up a tiny black tee with something about Canada splashed across it: "This is the tee shirt I wore when I met Madonna. And I looked like Garth."
Winner: Garth.
Best Queen Out
TRZP: On New York City storage: "We have to build a whole room for closets ? I mean, that's part of why I moved to LA," for the closet space.
IABBW: "Is there a front slit? Shoe moment!"
Winner: This is close, but as a person who considered moving west at least partially for the closet space, Rachel.
Best WTF Moment
TRZP: Over the course of last night's episode Rachel asked Rodger what a bolt is and later, not knowing the definition of clandestine, declares that whatever it is it "sounds like a shellfish."
IABBW: Brad and Gary are taking their bathtub to the new house. Is this something that people with really nice bathtubs do?
Winner: It does sort of sound like it could be a shellfish.
Best Gratuitous Cuteness
TRZP: Skyler chanting "oh my my!"
IABBW: A lot of Penelope just being cute and scruffy.
Winner: Oh my my.
Total:
TRZP: 5 points
IABBW: 6 points.
The (totally unscientific and subjective) Winner of Fashion's Night In Week 5 is Brad! Rachel maintains her edge—but things are looking better and better for Mr. G.
