A group of female engineering students in India have designed a bra called Society Harnessing Equipment (SHE) that's intended to prevent rape. This is how it works: Wire embedded in the underwire part of the lingerie shocks assailants when a certain amount of pressure is applied to them. Not only can it deliver 3,800kV electrical impulse up to 82 times, but a built-in GPS also sends an alert of the attack to the police and a programmed contact (smartphone variants are on the way. Seriously.)
Apparently, the students went for the chest instead of a newfangled chastity belt because they read that most attackers begin up top and work their way down. Not having tested the mechanism, we can say it sounds efficient for preventing sexual assault if it all goes according to plan, but frightening if anything goes wrong in any other situation ever. We'll see at the end of April, when it goes into mass production.
