Today we take you to the Manhattan offices of DuJour, a print-digital hybrid that celebrates the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Luxury is the name of the game at DuJour, so you can bet the team there knows their way around a fancy pair of shoes or two—but what we loved about the way they put there work looks together is an unabashed mix of high-end and high-street pieces. Here's how they work it when they're working.
Stephanie Jones, Art Director: I know it is the oldest trick in the book, but I love to layer. Start out with a tank top and build up: a tank top under a sweater, under a jacket, under a coat, under a scarf. At any given point I could turn one outfit into three different looks.
Style advice: People usually don't recognize me in heels. So that is the easiest way to transform any outfit. Add a red lip and I am pretty much invincible. The combination works for everything from jeans and a tank to an entire black ensemble.
Stephanie is wearing a Stella McCartney jacket and scarf, Ralph lauren tank, H&M pants, Alaia boots, and Rolex watch.
Sydney Wasserman, Senior Fashion Editor: My style is a bit arbitrary—I tend dress from the shoes up. I do feel fortunate to be able to wear jeans and t-shirts to work. Then I have more to spend on shoes.
Style advice: The best advice I have gotten is "less is more." My advice for anyone living in a big walking city like NYC, always get rubber soles put on your nice shoes. And make friends with a good tailor—fit is everything.
Daryl Chen, Deputy Features Editor: I'd describe my style as pretty parrot with a weakness for cashmere cardigans and striped shirts.
Style advice: Every day try to wear at least one thing that makes you smile.
Daryl is wearing a Michael Stars t-shirt, J Crew pants, a silk jacket from an antiques store in Massachusetts, Phoenix embroidered slippers bought in Taipei, a Rolex watch, a cream celluloid snake bangle from a vintage shop in Red Hook, a gold-toned wraparound skinny snake bracelet from eBay; two African recycled glass bead necklaces from Smith Street Fair in Brooklyn, double strand of bronze-colored beads from Club Monaco, Murano glass drop earrings purchased in Venice, and other jewelry.
Sarah Leon, Web Editor: I like to think that I resemble an easy going Parisian, but know the reality is a tired New Yorker. I favor black, gray, and shades of blue, with a few patterns mixed in. In winter, my wardrobe is all about jackets; during spring and summer I live for dresses.
Style advice: I wear high heels almost every day, but make sure to only purchase pairs that are actually wearable. If your feet hurt, or you feel uncomfortable, it's never worth it.
Sarah is wearing a blue leather jacket from Maje, a Reformation silk shirt, rag & bone jeans, Thakoon booties, rings from Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Pamela Love, and silver necklace from her grandmother.
Adam Rathe, Senior Editor: I like to wear slacks, button-down shirts, ties, and sweaters like some sort of English professor. It's a bit of a uniform.
Style advice: Oscar Wilde once wrote, "A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life." I'm not gonna argue with him.
Adam is wearing Ralph Lauren brogues, Brooks Brothers pants, Steven Alan Bengal-stripe shirt, David Hart tie, Todd Snyder sweater vest, and Ralph Lauren glasses.
Etta Meyer, Photo Editor: I have a love affair with loafers and ballet flats, because they allow me to scoot around town and the office easily and I think they make a daytime outfit instantly chic. One can't have too many pairs. I prefer to wear pants versus skirts and am generally found in a white button down shirt. When it's cold outside I like to wear silk scarves to keep warm (and for a little flair).
Style advice: The style trick that eludes me the most is the day-to-night transformation. Any weekday engagement requires a quick Clark Kent moment so I keep a drawer full of heels and a little lipstick in my desk.
Etta is wearing a Thomas Mason for J.Crew tuxedo shirt, 3.1 Philip Lim leopard print pants, and Maximo Dutti pumps.
Sydney is wearing a custom tux jacket, a Gap T-shirt, rag & bone jeans, and Jean-Michel Cazabat pumps.
