H&M and Inditex, the parent company of Zara, have signed on to the International Labor Organization's Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh. Though H&M did not use any of the factories in the Rana Plaza building whose collapse has killed over 1,100 garment workers, the chain is the largest single apparel manufacturer in Bangladesh. And Inditex is one of the world's largest retailers, making the companies' support of the agreement significant. Wal-Mart, Target, and Gap, all of which produce a lot of apparel in Bangladesh, have been under pressure to join the agreement before the May 15 deadline. [Reuters, WWD]
