The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) handed out bragging rights to 2012's most deserving mags at last night's National Magazine Awards, a.k.a the Ellies. Vogue was one of four Condé Nast wins, taking home best of its class, service, and fashion magazines. EIC and ambiguously titled Condé head honcho Anna Wintour was as wry as always in her acceptance speech. She said, "To those of you who might go home empty-handed tonight, let me give you a word of advice: Just hang in there for 25 years as we've done, and you might get lucky." Take note, totally win-less Hearst titles.
Other fashion mags coming out on top include W which swept the feature photography award for the beautiful terror you see above, Kate Moss as "Good Kate, Bad Kate." And GQ might be known for well-coiffed hommes, but its writer Chris Heath nabbed the reporting category for a piece on an animal massacre in Zanesville, Ohio.
As for non-fashion winners, National Geographic took home the most awards, four including best in its category of news, sports and entertainment magazines, and New York magazine won the top prize—best of the year—thanks in part to its "The City and the Storm" feature. We're guessing that particular subject did not contribute to Vogue's win.
