Sight to See: Need Supply Co.'s Grunge Human Beings

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Need Supply Co., the indie retailer based in Richmond, VA with an all-star e-commerce site, has released the second issue of its biannual print publication Human Being Journal. The whole journal explores the cross sections of fashion, lifestyle, food, and art, promising 151 sunglasses, six well-dressed monsters, 53 patters, nine problems, eight solutions, and a lot of tattoos. But this particular spread is just a couple of grunge kids scrounging around (awesomely) in Venice Beach. Harper Smith lensed the pics above, and you can get the journal here and shop select pieces here.
