You over-achiever, Sephora via SFGate
Ranking the "digital competence" of specialty retailers, the 2013 Digital IQ Index: Specialty Retail Report has been released, and it looks like this year's valedictorian is Sephora. The beauty mart earned not only the no. 1 spot out of 71 retailers in the study, but also earned the only "genius title," because of its' major marketing, e-commerce, and in-store successes like their new Digital Beauty Bag program.
The study also confirmed what anyone who has ever tried to fishtail their hair already knew: Beauty and skincare brands are ditching Facebook and "are now getting most of their traffic from YouTube as a result of the popularity of "how-to" videos in the space." [L2ThinkTank]
· Disrupting the curler and roller tools we've loved even before the Shirley Temple days, Conair is developing a new tool to create "uniform curls with minimal effort." They're obviously super pumped about it, saying "We believe this is the biggest innovation in hair since [the corporation] introduced the pistol-grip hair dryer in 1960." [WWD]
· Debra Messing must have some extra time now that Smash has been cancelled, since she's teaming up with Zyrtec to help women defeat the puffy "allergy face." [Allure]
· If matching your nails to your phone case isn't enough, ShopBop and NCLA nails are teaming up for a collection of colorfully coordinated nail wrap/clutch sets that'll also include nail files and top coat. [BellaSugar]
· Dolce & Gabbana are saying a late ciao to summer with a new summer nail collection, called Love in Taormina, designed by Pat McGrath. The line's inspired by a "colorful bouquet of Sicilian flowers," but we're getting a definite berry popsicle vibe. [Refinery29]
· Clearly disregarding the whole "meth mouth" thing, a woman in Monaco was rushed to the hospital with heart problems after drinking nothing but soda for 16 years. She's been released, but we'll probably hold off on a cheers. [TheGloss] —Alyssa Carroll
