People were burning to get ahold of the recent Rihanna x MAC makeup collaboration, but now a Harlem woman is claiming in a new lawsuit that the coveted RiRi Woo lipstick actually gave her herpes. Alleging she contracted the virus when a rep gave her a trial of the color, she said the company needs to "train its employees to use disposable tubes or swabs to apply the lipstick." Gluten-free makeup: After being removed from many American diets, gluten is also getting kicked out of makeup now. Companies like Hourglass Cosmetics, Afterglow, and Joey New York are all pushing wheat-free products designed to help grain-sensitive customers avoid gluten absorption through the eyes and lips. One Direction does nail polish: Not exactly reaching Justin Beiber x OPI status, One Direction is partnering with Office Depot on a set of five neon nail polishes. Each of the boy-banders will have his own eponymous shade in the collection, and proceeds go towards an anti-bullying program. [StyleBistro]
Chanel picks favorites: Even though parents aren't supposed to pick favorites, Chanel has named their top five nail colors in a new video. The chosen ones are Pirate, Black Satin, Beige, Particuliere, and Rouge Noir. [NYDailyNews]
Fragrance helps medical research: Givaudan, the world's largest fragrance manufacturer, is stepping outside of perfumes to aid Alzheimer and dementia research by creating personalized "Smell a Memory" kits. A rep from the project explained, "We thought, 'What if we can use smell to evoke memories and emotions in these patients?' The idea was to evoke emotional memories, not just factual ones." [WWD]
