Espadrilles have a long history—4000 years long, in fact—but never have we seen them looking as sharp as they do in 2013. The traditionally casual shoe originated in the Pyrenees, and there are still some shops in the Basque region of France and Spain that have been making them in the traditional slip-on style for over a century. Nowadays, the espadrille has evolved to encompass a range of styles—including platform wedges and lace-up sneakers—and patterns that would have those Basque fishermen rolling in their graves. Here are 11 modern takes for summer, many of which just happen to be on sale, too. —Cleo Zancope
