Multiple robbers wearing "burkas" and bearing axes stole watches and jewelry from Selfridges on London's Oxford Street at 8:30 p.m., half an hour before the department store usually closes. According to BBC News, two men were caught on the street minutes after fleeing the store when they fell off their getaway mopeds.
A witness to the crash said that he then saw a man run out from a nearby pizza joint and held down one of the two men on the moped. "Someone noticed a bag had fallen off the moped and that it had opened and a bunch a watches fell out. The duffle bag was full of watches and jewelery," he said.
Meanwhile, back at the store, "hundreds" of shoppers-cum-witnesses ran for the door. "Fortunately no-one was injured," Detective Chief Inspector Andy Noyes. "The store was very busy and this will have been a shocking thing for people to witness."
