Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Petite blonde trainer (and Racked obsession) Tracy Anderson sat down for an Into the Gloss profile and the results are predictably fascinating for any GOOP disciples. Anderson goes into detail about her fitness history, discussing her struggles as a dancer and disclosing that although she never had an eating disorder, she briefly tried smoking and definitely over-exercised in an attempt to lose weight. "I did so much step aerobics that I looked like I was shoved in a trash compactor and spit out like a Garbage Pail Kid in my black leotard and tights," she dramatized.

After years of fitness trial and error, she emerged looking less like a Garbage Pail Kid and more like the "teeny tiny" ideal she formed while cutting pieces of women's body parts out of magazines. We don't know who her arms and core are modeled upon, but her dream rear end was inspired by Giselle. "I laugh about it now, but everybody still wants that butt," she said. "She's pretty timeless."

Anderson, who had been operating in her home state of Indiana, packing up and moved to LA where a studio and celebrity fans soon followed. Gwyneth began training with Tracy after agreeing to appear in the first Iron Man. "She had 35 extra pounds on her," said Tracy. "Her butt was long and she had outer thigh problems. Gwyneth is lucky because she's really tall, so she can hide it really well in clothes, but she had significant problem areas. I felt so badly for her, and thought I could really help."

And the rest is history! Perfectly-shaped history.
