In 2009, publisher Conde Nast shuttered a handful of noteworthy titles, including its much-beloved Gourmet and Domino magazines. In a remarkably shortsighted move, Domino's site was also pulled down. Because who reads stuff on the internet, right?
Recent digital initiatives such as the Gourmet iPad app (RIP) and special editions of Domino seem to indicate that Conde's executive powers have realized the error of their ways. The latest flail could be, reports WWD, a new Domino site and a quarterly print pub. The operators behind the newly-resuscitated Domino will be the folks behind Project Décor, a furnishings shopping site heavily influenced by Pinterest. Zombie Domino will act as a "shoppable digital catalog" and not a fully-functioning e-commerce site, meaning it'll drive users off to retailers who actually hold merchandise and take payments. Though no sources are quoted in the article, from the sounds of it the project is a go.
