Gabby Sidibe, Scarlett Johansson, and Dakota Fanning are just three of the stars of a monster fall fashion portfolio styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Karl Lagerfeld for Harper's Bazaar. The actresses are joined by an all-star cast of famous models, including China Machado, Carmen Dell'Orefice, Liya Kebede, and Karen Elson, and musicians, like Grimes and Angel Haze. It's a beautiful spread, and pointedly more diverse — in terms of race, body size, and age — than the usual "round-up of starlets" story favored by women's magazines, in which the starlets are generally all white and can fit a sample size. The casting alone makes the story feel fresh.
Plus, you know, the fashion is also good. This 22-page spread is part of Roitfeld's newish position as the magazine's "Global Fashion Director."
The spread counts plenty of size-0 (or close enough) actresses, but also makes a point of including some larger models, like Erika Ervin (second from left), who at 6'8" is reportedly the world's tallest female model, and Candice Huffine (second from right), who is a successful plus-size model. Next to them are the straight-size models Xiao Wen Ju and Ashleigh Good.
Musicians Angel Haze (left) and Grimes (right).
Carmen Dell'Orefice (left), is 82 and has been working as a model since the age of 13. At 15, she made the cover of Vogue for the first time. Posing with her is Ondria Hardin, who is currently 16. Hardin has also been modeling since the age of 13. On the right are Lily Donaldson and Liberty Ross.
