January 5 might seem far and away for American Downton Abbey viewers (aaargh), but tons of entertainment outlets enjoyed last night's PBS's TCA press tour event with Michelle Dockery and gang in Los Angeles. Through some choice quotes from the actors and one not-yet-released preview trailer, plot tidbits were gleaned and the all important period costume changes were noted. So even though Shirley MacLaine's hats will never be topped, find three subtle changes to look forward to below.
On servant uniforms: "Daisy's cook uniform now comes with a drop waist. Progress," says LA Times.
On Edith going flapper: "Executive Gareth Neame confirmed that of all the characters next season, Edith will see the most movement, and that goes for her wardrobe, too. In another scene she looks every bit the modern glam girl in a playful green flapper dress for a big date night with Michael at London's ritzy Criterion Restaurant," wrote Vulture.
On said flapper dress coming off: As the Huffington Post notes, "Still, while we'll be seeing Edith in London more often and becoming more fashionable as a result, the cast deflected any questions regarding whether we'll see Edith taking off any of her fancy new dresses this season. 'It's Downton Abbey, not Game of Thrones!'"
