You've followed the 8,100 mile 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target collection tour bus and seriously weighed the pros and cons of roadtripping to Georgia for leaked bags. You probably decided against that because you're rational and just browsed eBay instead. Well, the weekend of reckoning has finally arrived. It's time to put the final touches on a plan of action in anticipation of the Lim for Target launch this Sunday morning.
The process of shopping a designer collaboration at a big box store should be old hat for most Racked readers thanks to years of launches from Target, H&M, Kohl's, JCPenney, et cetera, ad infinitum. But in case a refresher course is needed, we've put together a checklist for shopping the collection online, including return policy info, what is and is not going to be available at launch, and additional pro-tips.
1. Be the "first" to know: Sign up for email alerts from Target here. Disclaimer: You will receive all Target emails, not just those regarding the collaboration. You've been warned. You can also Text STYLE to TARGET (827438) for updates on your phone and text STOP to 827438 to cancel when you have all your goods in the bag.
2. Or just learn from the past: Former designer collections tend to land online between midnight and 3:00am, obviously well before Target's doors open around 8:00am. Diehards will be waiting by about 3:00am. Decide now if you're a diehard.
3. Don't just know what you want; prioritize what you want. While many hold that we're hitting collaboration fatigue as a nation, last season's Prabal Gurung sale and the straight-up animals at the press preview event would suggest otherwise. Items—especially signature looks like the shirtdresses, bold sweaters, and bags—will likely sell out rapidly.
Re-familiarize yourself with the whole line (as well as the pricing) and write down a plan of attack. May we suggest these items, which appear to be pulled directly from Lim's main line.
4. As much as you want them, don't be fooled by the shoes in the lookbook picture: Go ahead and cross those white flats off the top of your priorities list. They are from a 3.1 Phillip Lim collection and will not be sold at Target. The only shoes available for purchase are the men's Chelsea boot and high-top sneakers. Bummerama.
5. Know your return situation ahead of time: Target's general rule for returns is 90 days with tags and receipt, either directly at a store or online. But they've been known to change things up during designer collaborations. Items from the Target/Neiman Marcus collabapalooza, for example, had a ten day return policy for items purchased in January. Pay attention to your packing slip. If there is a specific-to-the-collab return policy, it can be found under the item on your receipt or packing slip and in the "Item details, shipping" tab if purchased on Target.com. Look for the words "return by" date or "return within" day range.
6. Check back: Speaking of returns, they happen. If you don't get what you want immediately, take a look again over the following couple of weeks.
