Sure, the main focus of Fashion Week is on very tall women wearing very nice clothes. But where the rubber really meets the runway is backstage. Up-close Instagrams of hair, makeup and nails reveal the makeup artists, hairstylists and manicurists who craft works of art in the midst of chaos.
With another NYFW behind us, take a look back at the best beauty moves from the Fall 2013 runways—aka the looks you can start wearing now.

Rodarte: Surfer-chic inspired braids and hair rosettes marked Rodarte's fall lineup, and are a perfect step between the lazy days of summer and more polished fall looks. The style is surprisingly easy to re-create at home, especially given the many YouTube tutorials that will walk you through it.

Jason Wu: Trying the popular blue eye shadow trend seen all over the runway at home just became a whole lot easier: The exact inky indigo color used for the smoky cat eye seen Wu's runway is now available for purchase in the designer's eyeshadow palette for Lancôme.

Anna Sui: Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath was the brains behind the '60s mod look at Anna Sui. What makes this version so unusual is how she also dotted the lower lash line with black eyeliner.

Prabal Gurung: For an unconventional mani at Prabal Gurung, talent Jin Soon Choi used the designer's polish line for Sally Hansen to first paint models' nail gold, then applied army green on only a portion. The effect was a subtle chevron design. Get a closer look and more DIY details here.

Kenneth Cole: The two-toned ombre lip seen at Kenneth Cole gave the term 'bold lip' a new whole new meaning. A (subtle) version of the dimensional lip, suitable for regular folks, can be achieved by applying gloss in the center of a bright lip color.—Heather Walczuk
