Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Are "of the month" clubs on the wane? Via our sister site in LA, we learn that two of the six BeachMint brands are currently on hiatus: HomeMint, the site offering home furnishings, décor and limited-edition art that Suit & Tie singer Justin Timberlake fronts; and BeautyMint, the personalized monthly skincare subscription whose face is Jessica Simpson. Their landing pages currently read, respectively, "We're remodeling: HomeMint is taking an extended staycation, and "We're taking a spa day: BeautyMint is taking some R&R."

Racked LA notes that prices have been a steady 70% off over the last "several months," fueling existing rumors that the BeachMint brands, and its business model of pairing a celebrity with a stylist/expert and a manufacturer for a particular fashion category, is in trouble.

HomeMint, which Justin told Racked he was doing 'cause it's fun,' launched just last spring, but BeautyMint debuted in fall of 2011 along with the still-kicking ShoeMint and StyleMint. Whether the "staycation" is a temporary or permanent hiatus, it's a clear change-or-close crossroads for the brands. Maybe it wouldn't have hurt to choose celebrities with less going on with their lives. JC Chasez, for example, probably has plenty of time on his hands.
