Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Lanvin, typically very refined and luxe, went in a disco direction for Spring 2014 in Paris. Models wore a variety of shiny, metallic, lamé-esque dresses and jackets and perhaps most strange of all, the accessory of note was a trash bag purse clutched to keep it cinched. Alber Elbaz, how very derelicte of you! The audience seemed to approve: New York Times fashion writer Eric Wilson Tweeted, excitedly, of the rubbish bags, "Fashion is trash!!!" while InStyle's Ariel Foxman says he loves the shape. It certainly would be cheap to replicate.
