The Proenza Schouler boys, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, gave a talk last night at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and during the event, Hernandez shared an amazing Anna Wintour anecdote.
When the designer was just a young college student, he was on a flight with his mother and saw Anna sitting in first class. In an incredibly brave move, he decided to walk up to her and tap her on the shoulder to give her a note. Anna iced him out, not even acknowledging him after the physical contact, so Hernandez left the note—written on a napkin—under her drink and, we assume, slunk back to coach.
As our sister site Racked Boston explains, "Two weeks later, Lazaro received a call from Michael Kors, who said Wintour gave him a letter from a kid on the plane and that Kors should hire him as an intern. The rest is history." How mindblowing is that?
We're not advocating that anyone get physical with Anna Wintour, but this just goes to show that a little motivation doesn't hurt.
