No more Mr. Nice Tim Gunn. Project Runway's kind-hearted mentor promises the New York Daily News that fans will see a darker, more tempestuous side of his personality in his new show Under the Gunn, premiering Thursday, January 16 at 9pm on Lifetime. The show finds Gunn stepping into the patented Heidi Klum host role, while former Project Runway contestants Nick Verreos, Mondo Guerra, and Anya Ayoung-Chee each lead a team of emerging designers. The show's judges include Rachel Roy, celebrity stylist Jen Rade, and Marie Claire's Zanna Roberts Rassi.
So, yes, it's like NBC's The Voice with sewing instead of singing. Even Gunn says so, telling the NY Daily News, "You can't help but make the comparison," he said. "The difference is that the mentors on The Voice aren't in competition with each other, as they are on this show."
Besides the fashion, tune in to see Gunn display human emotion and perhaps throw a temper tantrum. "I hope people recognize that I'm a real person and some things can push my buttons," Gunn said. Also, rapper Macklemore is going to be a guest judge, perhaps for some sort of Thrift Shop challenge?
