Back fat: so hot right now.
Retailers across the clothing industry are redoing their mannequins in the latest attempt to draw customers, and some are adding tattoos, thicker waists, and back fat, according to the AP.
"Wings Beachwear's mannequins in Miami sport flower tattoos like some of the women who shop there. The mannequins at American Apparel's downtown New York City store have pubic hair peeking through their lingerie. And at David's Bridal, mannequins soon will get thicker waists, saggier breasts and back fat to mimic a more realistic shape," they report.
Michele Von Plato, David's Bridal's vice president, said heavier mannequins, "will give (a shopper) a better idea of what the dress will look like on her."
Other companies such as Ralph Pucci International and Nordstrom will also be introducing mannequins with wider waists, while stores like Saks said they've been using hair, makeup, and actual facial features on mannequins for a more realistic appearance.
