Macy's announced today that this year's Black Friday sales will kick off at 6pm on Thursday—Thanksgiving day. That's two hours earlier than last year, when the store opened for the first time on Thanksgiving at 8pm.

That means Macy's employees will once again have to work on the holiday, but according to a statement from the retailer sent to CNN Money, the employees prefer it that way. The statement reads:

We work diligently to staff Thanksgiving with associates who volunteer to work and doing so means that our people are able to make their own decisions about how they contribute to our most important and busiest weekend of the year. We also heard last year from many associates who appreciated the opportunity to work on Thanksgiving so they could have time off on Black Friday.
CNN reports that Macy's is also giving "incentive pay" to those who work on Thanksgiving.
