J.Crew's mastermind Jenna Lyons dispensed some style tips for Wardrobe Icons recently that would be perfect for aspiring Lyons-lookalikes everywhere. Her five wardrobe staples: a cashmere crewneck sweater, jeans, personal jewelry, a chambray shirt, and a blazer—otherwise known as the front display area of every J.Crew store in the country. She's also a big fan of the activewear influences cropping up right now (although J.Crew isn't dipping into that pot anytime soon), and when it comes to occasion dressing, she advocates putting down the dress.
"I've seen people spend too much money or buy the wrong thing because they think they have to get a dress," Lyons told Wardrobe Icons. "Sometimes its more interesting to take something a bit over the top like a sparkly sweater, a beaded top, a crazy skirt, and mix it with something that still feels like yourself: my bridesmaids wore sequin skirts and t-shirts." Try this out at your own risk.
