Target recently announced that it would be shutting down 11 underperforming US locations by February 1st, 2015. While this might not seem too extreme in the wake of other retailers suffering more significant losses (hey there, Sears), the Huffington Post points out that, in total, Target has closed 19 locations in the past year which, coincidentally, is the exact same number of stores it opened in the past year.
A company spokesperson confirmed that each of the 11 stores employed about 100 employees, and all who were eligible were given the opportunity to transfer to another Target or collect severance payments.
