Upstate New York mall Walden Galleria decided that it is opening at 6pm on Thanksgiving Day and every retailer in the mall should open its doors then, regardless of whether they want to or not. According to Money, Walden Galleria is threatening tenant retailers with fines if they don't follow the rules and open at 6pm on Thanksgiving.
The fine is substantial enough that some shops feel they can't afford to remain closed. Shaun Deutsch, manager of the mall's Tee Shirt University store, told Money: "We're just stuck following the rules, because if we didn't, we'd be fined by the mall and being a small company, that's substantial to us. We can't just pay that. We have to stay open."
