British luxury brand Mulberry has been looking for a new "It" bag for some time. Now Mulberry is hoping that the accessories designer behind Celine's runaway success in the "It" bag department can deliver a new direction for Mulberry. Johnny Coca, Céline's in-house accessories designer, will take the helm as Mulberry's creative director in July, Vogue reports.
Will he be able to deliver another hit along the lines of the Trapeze bag? And what will happen to Mulberry's more "affordable" direction? The Guardian notes that its unclear what will happen to the price of Mulberry's bags under Coca's watch, since "Céline's prices are what are politely described in the industry as 'elevated.'"
