What the Team Behind Buzzy Shopping App Spring Wear to Work

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to Working It, where Racked follows street style into the office. Forget pedestrian khakis and button-downs—these fashionable professionals take dress codes to a whole new dimension. Quick, somebody call HR!

Mobile shopping app Spring launched earlier this year to plenty of fashion-world fanfare. LVMH's Bernard Arnault is a backer, and everyone from Eva Chen to Rachel Zoe is singing its praises on the app's iTunes Store page.

Here's the gist: Spring lets you shop hundreds of brands like Alexander Wang and 3.1 Phillip Lim straight from your iPhone—you can follow specific brands, shop exclusives, browse themed collections, and buy merchandise dangerously easy.

Naturally, Spring's team puts the same amount of careful selection into their own outfits as they do the clothes featured on the app. Below, check out what staffers wear to work in their bright Soho loft office.

April Uchitel, Chief Brand Officer, is wearing a Jonathan Simkhai top, Thakoon skirt, Isa Tapia booties, Jennifer Fisher cuffs, Times Arrow bag, Céline glasses from Selima Optic, and Cruella by Nars lipstick.

What's your staple work outfit?
A large part of my job is running around the city meeting with Spring brands, so my outfits tend to start with the shoes. I live in my Saint Laurent leopard slip-ons; Acne or Margiela ankle boots; skinny jeans and army pants from J Brand, Current Elliot, IRO, and Nili Lotan; chunky knits by Ryan Roche and Ulla Johnson; and tees and jackets from Isabel Marant, Band of Outsiders, Laveer, and Jonathan Simkhai.

Your closet is on fire! What one item do you save from the flames?
The Bottega Veneta motorcycle boots I splurged on nine years ago when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, Luella. They get better with age and will one day be passed down to her.

What are your beauty must-haves?
I'm obsessed with Matt/Dew by Make Cosmetics; Nars Velvet Matt Lip Pencils in Cruella and Dragon Girl; Restorsea Rejuvenating Day Cream; REN V-Cleanse Revitalizing Night Cream; and Lucas' Pawpaw ointment.

What's your go-to brand?
I have so many—and the best part is that nearly all of them are available on Spring!

What's your online shopping weakness?
The Real Real. It's an awesomely curated luxury resale site. My trick is to search with tags and then shop from all the unworn items.

Who would you swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?
Emmanuelle Alt, the editor in chief of French Vogue.

What other app besides Spring do you consider to be the most crucial?
Instagram! I love to see how brands use it to promote themselves, showcase products, and inspire their followers, and how it informs what they do (and can do) on Spring!

Who is your style icon?
Kate Moss.

Katherine Prime, VP of Operations, is wearing a Jonathan Simkhai shirt, a Veda jacket, J Brand jeans, Marc Jacobs shoes, a Lele Sadoughi necklace, bracelets from Phyllis + Rosie, Giles & Brother, and her grandmother, a Mirlo ring, and Jin Soon x Tess Giberson nail polish.

Who would you swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?
If the women in my office could put all their clothes into one closet—dream! I get all my style inspiration and guidance from them.

Who is your professional role model?
My dad, for taking risks to do what he enjoys. And David Bell, former CEO of Interpublic Group, who is in the Advertising Hall of Fame and currently on the board of Time Inc. and numerous start-ups. He not only has an enviable career, but is a creative, inspirational, and passionate leader who always makes me think about what is truly important.

What other app besides Spring do you consider to be the most crucial?
Podcast. I've jumped on the Serial bandwagon.

What was your first job?
I was in the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center when I was 8. I got paid $10 a performance before taxes. I think I bought a Boyz II Men tape with my earnings.

What's your staple work outfit?
I default to skinny jeans, a big knit, and my (very beat up, this-close to falling apart, I can't live without) motorcycle boots. I'll throw on a sweater dress and heeled boots if I need to be more dressed up.

What item of clothing makes you feel the most like yourself when you wear it?
My Veda leather motorcycle jacket. When I was a kid, I dreamt of having a Harley-Davidson and a pick-up truck. The jacket seems to fit better in my New York apartment.

Alan Tisch, CEO, is wearing a James Perse sweater, an Alternative Apparel T-shirt, 3x1 jeans, Pierre Hardy shoes, and an Hermès watch.

What's your winter uniform?
Comfy and cozy! It's all about plaid and cashmere. And of course a beanie is essential as well.

What are your beauty must-haves?
Tom Ford Black Orchid, Kiehl's Facial Fuel, and Malin & Goetz Peppermint Shampoo.

Who would you swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?
Jay-Z.

Who is your professional role model?
Steve Jobs.

What's your staple work outfit?
3x1 Jeans, an American Apparel 50/50 V-neck T-shirt, a Thom Browne plaid button-down, and vintage Nike Dunks.

What's your go-to brand?
It's impossible to pick just one—all of the brands on Spring are truly incredible. 3x1 for denim is certainly essential though.

Your closet is on fire! What one item do you save from the flames?
Shoes, all of them.

What was your first job?
Caddying at a local golf club.

Who is your style icon?
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Mindy Welford, Email and Customer Relationship Manager, is wearing an Opening Ceremony dress, Rachel Comey shoes, a Phyllis + Rosie necklace and bracelet, Marc by Marc Jacobs lipstick, and Duane Reade tights.

What are your beauty must-haves?
I'm pretty hooked on lipstick, and these days I've been using one by Stiks Cosmetics in Tangerine. I also can't leave the house without a few too many sprays of Tocca Cleopatra perfume.

What's your go-to brand?
Marc Jacobs, especially for bags and rad accessories. For my everyday, I stick to Levi's and Vince.

What item of clothing makes you feel the most like yourself when you wear it?
I'm super fond of my Warby Parker glasses. My sense of style is really a mesh of Midwestern practicality (Michigan born and raised!) and my love for fashion as a New Yorker. With that, I know that no matter what I'm wearing, my glasses always elevate my outfit.

What other app besides Spring do you consider to be the most crucial?
I recently became a fan of Omnifocus, a productivity app that I rely on to keep myself organized and on time for everything. I've tried using other similar apps before, but feel like this one is the most intuitive and user-friendly.

What's your winter uniform?
Carhartt black beanie, Mackage down coat with an extra furry hood, and Vans slip-ons with wool socks.

Who is your professional role model?
My mom. She is super intelligent, confident in her capabilities, and has never let anyone tell her otherwise. Despite the distance, for years she commuted out of state to work for companies because she felt that passionate about them.

Arielle Welt, Director of Brand Strategy, is wearing a Laveer blazer, Adam Lippes shirt, J Brand jeans, Tamara Mellon shoes, Ilana Ariel earrings, a Phyllis + Rosie necklace and bracelets, Giles & Brother and Hermès bracelets, and a Bing Bang ring.

What's your staple work outfit?
I'm all about the perfect jacket or blazer and love to layer and play with proportion. My go-to is very much some version of what you see me in here: a longer, more oversized tee or tailored shirt, blazer, and skinny jeans or a leather legging.

What's your best online shopping tip?
When you find a basic you love, scoop it up in every color!

Your closet is on fire! What one item do you save from the flames?
I can't pick just one, but can narrow it down to three: the Louboutin caged heels I wore on my wedding day, my Céline moto jacket, and a White + Warren travel wrap.

What was your first job?
I worked at a small boutique after school when I was in high school and perfected the art of T-shirt folding.

What are your beauty must-haves?
I was introduced to Korres and Kahina Giving Beauty by Spring, and now can't live without Kahina Giving Beauty Argan Oil and Korres Black Pine eye cream.

Who is your professional role model?
The ladies of team Spring are incredibly inspiring. We are so fortunate to have such major girl bosses across so many industries here, from the e-commerce and ops world to fashion and marketing. I feel so lucky to work with and learn from them all every day.

Jane Birkin in the '70s. She embodies this amazingly effortless, French free-spirited elegance.

Dan Zeehandelaar, Product Manager, is wearing the Everlane Slim Fit Oxford, Combatant Gentleman chinos, Steve Madden shoes, and Benjos shoelaces.

What's your go-to brand?
I love Onassis: simple style and great prices (and sales), plus they'll make you free a cappuccino while you shop.

What other app besides Spring do you consider to be the most crucial?
I don't know how we lived before Venmo! Whether splitting the check or paying rent, they've eliminated a huge source of relationship friction.

What item of clothing makes you feel the most like yourself when you wear it?
I'm obsessed with my Alternative Apparel Larchmont pants. They're absurdly comfortable.

Your closet is on fire! What one item do you save from the flames?
I've had a lightweight gray half-zip pullover from Gap for over ten years, and I still wear it all the time. It must be saved!

What are your beauty must-haves?
I'm a sucker for a great shave. I can't live without my Harry's razor and shave cream which is the best I've ever used, and I've tried them all.

What was your first job?
I was an intern at a aviation-specific civil engineering firm, and I got to play around with airport layout CAD drawings. I still have giant printouts of the layout plan for Philadelphia International.
