American Dream, the US's craziest mall yet to be built, is locking in some enormous retail partners. According to NorthJersey.com, FAO Schwartz has agreed to abandon its iconic mid-Manhattan location for retail space inside the New Jersey mall, Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor will each open 100,000+ square foot spaces as anchor tenants, and Cirque du Soleil will establish a permanent theater. Triple Five, the developer in charge of American Dream, claims that it is also in active negotiations with Bloomingdale's Outlet, Lord & Taylor Outlet, Nordstrom Rack, Saks Off Fifth, and Century 21, and mall mainstays including Abercrombie & Fitch, Old Navy and The Children's Place are committed to the project.
We've heard this story before: Last year, Racked NY reported that Uniqlo, Zara, and Topshop were close to signing leasing deals with Triple Five, but NorthJersey.com confirmed that Uniqlo still has not officially signed on yet and there was no mention of Zara or Topshop in the latest report. Regardless, Triple Five continues to hold fast to the Fall 2016 opening date, even though construction activity was reportedly nonexistent over the summer and the 12-year-old project is riddled with financial concerns.
