When Cathy Horyn stepped down from her post as New York Times fashion critic last week, it was explained that Horyn needed to spend time with her ill partner Art Ortenberg. Just now, Women's Wear Daily has released the news that Ortenberg—who, along with his wife Liz Claiborne founded Liz Claiborne Inc.—has passed away at the age of 87.
Horyn is not mentioned in the short obit, which states, simply: "Arthur Ortenberg, a founder and vice chairman of Liz Claiborne Inc. whose vision guided the phenomenal growth of the company in the Seventies and Eighties, has died age 87."
