Cathy Horyn returned to the New York Times today to write a poignant tribute to L'Wren Scott, illuminating much about the designer's life by disclosing heartfelt details from their close relationship. In the tribute, Horyn recalls when she first saw that Scott's business troubles were starting to hurt her well-being.
The fashion critic apparently advised Scott to close up shop two years ago, but instead the late designer found new outlets for her business through successful partnerships with more mainstream companies like Banana Republic and Bobbi Brown. However, it wasn't enough to save the line. Horyn recently found out that Scott was planning to announce today that she was shutting down her business.
As for Horyn's return to the NY Times, this appears to be special case for a one-off article (see the past tense chosen for the bio: "From 1999 to 2014, Cathy Horyn was the fashion critic for The New York Times.") But Scott tribute is indicative of how much her presence has been missed within the industry.
