President Obama chose one of the most controversial styles of the past century—the Canadian tuxedo—for a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday. They were discussing Russian troops entering the Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, but all anyone wanted to talk about was the denim on denim.

Said Ron Christie, a former Bush, Jr. adviser: "Talking with the President of Russia about an invasion in a button-down shirt and jeans is not up to the task. [...] I would never presume to be that informal or casual in the office of the beacon of freedom in the world." Well, at least they weren't Skyping?
