Re/code, the site that broke the news of DailyCandy's shut down, brings word today that Yahoo Shine, the massive women-focused media portal, is not long for this world.

According to their anonymous sources, Yahoo honcho Marissa Mayer plans to kill the site within the next few months, replacing it with a few higher-end online lifestyle "magazines."

Said one source: "She thought Shine was not attractive and she aspires to create an online version of Vogue. But Shine is a mass-market content site, more like USA Today." Yahoo is reportedly in talks with big-name fashion editor Joe Zee, who currently serves as Elle magazine's creative director, though it is not "a done deal."

Yahoo Shine's EIC has jumped ship, moving on to HelloGiggles. Re/code reports that other Shine staffers are looking for jobs at these yet-to-launch lifestyle concepts.
