How much would you pay for a purse made of nylon? What if it was made in Italy and bore the label of haute-minimalist brand The Row? For spring 2014, designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have come out with a new silhouette—the sling bag—available in both fabric and leather. One, done in nylon, is a relative bargain at $1,550. Another, in black calfskin, is going for $7,900.
To be fair, The Row has always been about extremely pricey luxury wear. Speaking with Barneys, the twins say that this bag shape took them two seasons to perfect. Said Ashley, "I think everyone will love the sling. It's an easy over the shoulder or crossbody bag. It's light, it's packable. You can fold it in on itself and travel with it." Yeah, just crumple that thing up and shove it in your suitcase. A rust version has already sold out on Net-A-Porter.
