Kate Middleton, princess, is required to look presentable—nay, perfect—constantly. How she's managed to do that, birth an ideal royal successor and make nary a misstep in those modest wedge heels of hers is a subject of ongoing fascination. Today, People sheds some light on Middleton's perfect wardrobe, on display recently during a whirlwind, 19-day tour Down Under. Tallied, the cost of her clothes for the tour came in at around $65,000.

Middleton does not have a stylist per se, but she does have a personal secretary, Natasha Archer, who also serves Prince William. It was Archer who called in racks upon racks of clothing in anticipation of the royal tour. "Merchandise was delivered care of Archer to Kensington Palace with the understanding that anything Kate wore she would pay for," reports People. "(No freebies allowed!) Clothes that didn't make the cut were politely returned." Archer also acts as the point person for fashion labels interested in sending Middleton their latest lookbooks.

But as paparazzi photos evidence, the princess also enjoys shopping solo, hitting up stores like Reiss, French Connection, Topshop and Selfridges. According to an unnamed source at Selfridges, Middleton used to just drop in to the store to browse but now heads directly to a personal shopping suite where she can check out racks that were pulled in anticipation of her visit. "She chooses what she likes beforehand and sometimes I think her friends come in and help look for her and she tries it all on in the suite upstairs," said one gossipy sales associate. For a perfect fit, Middleton reportedly has all her clothes tailored.
